Cream bun or butter bun is a popular delicacy in South Indian bakeries mainly in tamilnadu and kerala. Butter bun is similar to cream stuffed doughnut. cream bun is my husband’s snack recipe and he always buys that when ever he visits the home town. I usually bake the buns and just apply a layer of butter sugar mixture to it however there was huge difference in its taste. later i got this recipe from one of our family friend who owns a bakery, preparing dough for buns and the ingredients remain same whereas only the cooking method differs. These buns are fried in oil and not baked in oven similar to making doughnuts.
This Bakery style cream buns are so delicious and it requires only few ingredients for stuffing like butter powdered sugar, cream and vanilla essence.
Notes
Firstly Knead the dough for good 10 minutes to get the soft buns if you are using stand mixer then it takes only 5 minutes to knead it.
While kneading the dough you can also use butter instead of oil
Fry the buns at low flame only then the buns get cooked equally inside and outside
For stuffing i used butter, powdered sugar, vanilla essence and cream but cream is completely optional so just skip it.
Allow the buns to cool completely before stuffing the cream

Ingredients
For Making Bun
- 3 cup All purpose flour / Maida
- 1 tbsp Yeast
- 4 tbsp Sugar powdered sugar
- 3 tbsp Butter Room temperature
- 1/4 tsp Salt
- Water
- 1/2 cup Milk
- Oil for frying
For stuffing
- 1/2 cup Butter at room temperature
- 3/4 – 1 cup Icing sugar or powdered sugar
- 1 tsp Vanilla essence
- 2 tbsp Cream Optional
Instructions
To make buns
- Firstly take warm milk in bowl add 1 tbsp sugar and 2 tbsp butter and mix it well now
- Now add yeast and mix it well and cover it and set aside for 10-15 minutes or till the yeast proves
- Now add flour to a mixing bowl and add the yeast mixture and mix it well
- Add butter and knead it well for 5-10 minutes to a soft dough
- Cover the dough and rest it for 1-2 hours or till it doubles in its size
- Now knead the dough once again
- And divide it to the equal sized balls and roll it to smooth ball
- And again cover it for another 10 minutes and meanwhile heat the oil for deep frying
- When the oil is medium hot add the buns and fry them in a low flame
- Fry them till they turn golden brown and take it out and set aside for cooling
To make butter cream
- Take room temperature butter and beat it low speed for 1 minute
- Add icing sugar or powdered sugar and beat it again in medium speed till it turns fluffy
- Add vanilla essence and cream and beat it again till it is stiff
To Stuff the bun
- Now once the buns are cooled completely slit open the bun and apply the butter cream and cover it again
- Serve it with tea or just as it is
