Today im sharing Chana dal chutney / kadalai paruppu chutney. Dals are rich in protein so we can add it in our regular diet. This chutney is made of red chillis, curry leaves hing. The chana dal chutney recipe is a perfect combination with hot idlis , dosa and also for rice.
This chutney is thicker than other chutney so do not add more water to this like any other chutney. I prepare many different chutneys for breakfast and this is one which i make regularly. There are many variations to this chutney which can be made with tomato, onion and with coconut. Sometimes i make this Chana dal chutney with tomato and that too taste too good soon i will share that recipe also. as i make idli and dosa for our regular breakfast i have to prepare chutney with it even if i prepare sambar chutney is also must in our breakfast.

Chana dal chutney | Kadalai paruppu chutney | How to prepare chana dal chutney
Ingredients
- 1/4 cup Chana dal / kadalai paruppu
- 3 Red chilli
- Few Curry leaves
- 1 pinch Asafoetida/ Hing / perungayam
- 1/2 cup Coconut
- 2 tsp oil
- salt ( as per taste )
- 1/4 cup Water
For tempering
- 1 tsp oil
- 1/4 tsp Mustard
- 1 Reds chilli
- few curry leaves
Instructions
- In a kadai heat 2 tsp oil and add Chana dal / kadalai paruppu and fry till colour changes
- Now add red chilli , curry leaves and hing and saute
- Further add coconut and mix and switch off the flame
- Add the mixture to blending jar and add small tamarind, salt and little water to grind
- Blend it to Coarse( not too coarse and not too smooth blend it like i have shown in the picture)
For Tempering
- Now heat some oil and add mustard seeds and once it splutter add red chilli and curry leaves and add it to chutney
- Serve the chana dal chutney with dosa and idli
