Coconut poli / Thengai poli / Kayi obbatu / Kayi holige recipe with detailed step by step photos. This is delicious sweet recipe from South indian cuisine. And this sweet is must for festivals like Bhogi, avani avittam and for ugadi. Coconut poli or thengai poli or kayi holigea is very simple to make and you can find in all sweet shops and boli stalls. The outer cover/ dough is made of maida, and we use Coconut and jaggery for stuffing. This stuffing or pooranam is the same which we make for our Poorana Kozhukattai.
I had already shared poorana kozhukattai in this blog. thre are many boli recipes like dal poli, khara poli, Sweet potato poli and many. Coconut poli is very simple to make among all other poli recipes.
Usually all the polis are made using maida for outer cover as a health conscious. You can use Maida and wheat flour in equal proportion for the the dough(outer cover). But there will be a slight difference in the taste.
My mother makes delicious boli and the stuffing is totally different from our regular poli. In my hometown(ooty), We prepare boli for Small in house functions and during festivals . We use Roasted gram dal (potukadalai), coconut and sugar as the stuffing and this is so delicious.
I will try to share that recipe soon. In Karnataka this coconut boli (kayi holigea) is very famous as they prepare it for various occasions. Serve coconut poli hot with some ghee simmered on top.
