Oats Idli is quick and yet healthy and delicious breakfast recipe. To make these idlis you can use either rolled oats or quick cooking oats. These idlis are soft and spongy and perfect for the breakfast. You can serve it with chutney or samba. I also used rava in this oats idli recipe to get the right texture. I adapted this recipe from my rava idli recipe.

One of the way i include oats in our diet is with these oats idli recipe, I also make simple oats porridge but my husband is not a fan of oats porridge (basically he does not like oats
) so i have to make oats idli or oats upma instead. Oats idli is a simple and healthy breakfast option and more importantly its instant. So you can prepare it in busy weekday mornings. As these are not fermented, eno salt or baking soda and curd is used in this instant oats idli recipe to make them soft and spongy. For breakfast i regularly make a big batch of fresh idli dosa batter and store it in fridge. But sometimes when im done with dosa batter this oats idli come as a handy.

Ingredients to make Instant oats idli

  • Instant Oats
  • Coarse rava / semolina / sooji
  • Curd
  • Eno salt or Baking soda and few basic ingredients

– Heat a kadai with ghee and fry and cashews and take it out
– Now add mustard seeds, cumin and once it crackles add curry leaves ginger and saute it
– To this add Rava/semolina or sooji and fry till it turns aromatic or for 4-5 minutes
– Now add Powdered oats and in medium flame saute for 2-3 minutes and switch off the flame
– Transfer the mixture to a mixing bowl and once it cool downs add 1 cup water and 1/4 cup curd and mix well and set it aside for 15 minutes
– Meanwhile grease the idli plates with little oil
To make Instant oats rava idli
– After 15 minutes if the batter is thick then add 2-3 tbsp of water and mix it well. batter should not be very nor very thin.
– To the batter add 1 tsp eno salt and 1 tbsp of water and mix it well , you will be able to see the bubbles in the batter ( alternatively you can add 1/4 tsp baking soda and mix it well ) both works same.
– Now pour the batter in greased idli plates.
– In a pot or idli cooker heat 2 cups water and place the idli plates and steam for 8-10 minutes
– Serve it hot with chutney or sambar

Ingredients
  

  • 1 tbsp Oil or Ghee
  • 10-12 Cashews optional
  • 1 tsp Mustard seeds
  • 1 tsp Urad dal
  • 1 tsp Cumin
  • 2 spring Curry leaves chopped
  • 1 Green chili optional
  • 1 inch Grated ginger optional
  • 1/2 cup Rava / semolina / sooji Coarse variety
  • 1 cup Oats
  • 1/4 cup Curd
  • 1/4 cup Water
  • Salt
  • 1/4 tsp Baking soda 1 tsp Eno fruit salt

Instructions
 

  • Take 1 cup oats and add it to blender jar
  • Blend it to coarse powder
  • Heat a kadai with ghee and fry and cashews and take it out
  • Now add mustard seeds, cumin and once it crackles add urad dal, chana dal , curry leaves and ginger and saute it
  • To this add Rava/semolina or sooji and fry till it turns aromatic or for 4-5 minutes
  • Now add Powdered oats and in medium flame saute for 2-3 minutes and switch off the flame
  • Transfer the mixture to a mixing bowl and once it cool downs add 1 cup water and 1/4 cup curd and mix well and set it aside for 15 minutes

To make Instant oats rava idli

  • After 15 minutes add cashews and coriander leaves and if the batter is thick then add 2-3 tbsp of water and mix it well. batter should not be very nor very thin.
  • To the batter add add 1/4 tsp baking soda and mix it well you will be able to see the bubbles in the batter ( alternatively you can add 1 tsp eno salt and 1 tbsp of water and mix it well ) both works same.
  • Now pour the batter in greased idli plates and steam it in idli cooker or in a pot for 8-10 minutes
  • Now the Idlis are ready to be served
  • Serve it hot with chutney or sambar

Notes

Use only coarse variety rava / semolina
You can add grated carrots to the batter to make it even more healthier
