Jackfruit appam recipe| Chakka appam | How to prepare Jackfruit appam recipes with detailed step by step photos. This jackfruit appam recipe is traditional know as appam/paniyaram and also called as nei appam. We prepare this sweet during special occasions but we use banana. since its seasonal fruit i used jackfruit, rice and banana to prepare the nei appam. But jackfruit also taste equally good. The outer part is lightly crispy, and the inner part very soft. It is prepare with rice, jaggery and coconut. Jackfruit appam recipe is very easy to prepare the only thing is that, you have to soak the rice before hand.

The jackfruit appam is know as Gaarige or jackfruit fritters and also famous in mangalore. I used paniyaram pan for this recipe. If you do not have paniyaram pan, and you can deep fry it in oil in kadai. Jackfruit aroma with coconut and ghee makes it tastier, Yes ghee also used to fry the appams. You can use the regular cooking oil, but ghee gives the authentic taste to appam. Soak the rice for 3 hours only then you will get soft batter, I used dry ginger powder which enhance the taste but its optional, do not skip cooking or baking soda in this recipe as i makes appam soft and cooks evenly.

Ingredients
  

  • 7-8 nos Jackfruit
  • 1 cup Raw rice
  • 1/2 cup Jaggery
  • 1/4 tsp cardamom powder
  • 1/4 tsp Dry ginger powder (optional)
  • pinch of Baking soda
  • water
  • ghee

Instructions
 

  • Firstly wash and soak the raw rice for 3 hours
  • Now add the soaked rice to blending jar and add 2 tbsp water and blend it to smooth paste
  • Now to the blended rice add 7 – 8 chopped Jackfruit , Jaggery powder and Cardamom and blend it well
  • Blend it to smooth paste and add it to mixing bowl
  • Now add Dry ginger powder and baking soda and mix well
  • Batter should be smooth and not to watery
  • Now add shredded or chopped coconut to the batter and mix well
  • Heat the appam pan and add ghee in each cavity
  • Now scoop the appam batter and add it to each cavity
  • cover the appam and cook in low to medium flame
  • Turn it to other side and cook for 5 minutes or till the appam cooked completly
  • Serve the jackfruit appam hot and enjoy

Notes

You can add more jaggery according to your taste bud 
Use ripe jackfruit for better taste 
You can skip cooking soda but adding it will give soft appam
