Palli pudi / Shenga pudi / is a Spiced powder made with peanuts, Channa dal , sesame seeds and red chili. Peanut podi is basically from Andhra cuisine. You can serve this spicy peanut podi with hot rice with dollop of ghee or with idli & dosa or add this podi to blending jar with water and blend it to smooth to make instant chutney. Earlier days I make Idli podi and i always keep stock of idli podi for a quick chutney to pair it with idli and dosa on the busy mornings. This peanut chutney powder is something introduced to me by one of my friend. I got the recipe from her. And the first time I made this Chutney powder we became a huge fan of this and hence i make this Peanut podi regularly.
Peanuts are very healthy and rich in protein so you can serve this peanut chutney podi to kids as well for adults too. There are different methods to make peanut podi each household has their own versions. Whereas few add dry coconut and sesame seeds I usually i make it without coconut in it. This peanut podi / shenga pudi requires Peanut, Channa dal , Coriander seed, Cumin / jeera, Red chili and salt. You can skip Channa dal in this recipe.
Peanut Chutney podi / Peanut pudi recipe / Palli podi
Ingredients
- 1 cup Peanuts / Verkadalai
- 2-3 tbsp Channa dal
- 1 tsp Coriander seeds
- 2 tsp Cumin
- 1/2 tsp Oil
- 7-8 Red chili
- 2-3 spring Curry leaves
- 2 cloves Garlic
- Salt
- Asafeotida
Instructions
- Heat a pan and dry roast the peanuts
- Once it cool downs peel the skin and set it aside
- Now dry roast the Channa dal in medium flame until it turns golden
- Then dry roast the cumin and coriander seeds and set it aside
- Now add a 1/2 tsp of oil and roast the red chili and remove it from the flame
- Roast the curry leaves and garlic and set aside
- Finally add all the roasted ingredients to a blending jar and add salt and asafeotida
- Pulse and blend it to a Coarse powder
- Store the Peanut podi in a air tight container
