Potato Kara Curry / Aloo sabzi / How to make potato kara curry / Urulaikizhangu kara curry recipe with detailed step by step photos. Kara curry is typical south indian Style potato sabzi and mainly from Tamilnadu cuisine. It also’ No Onion- No garlic’ recipe. Potato curry is simple side dish recipe made with few basic masala and besan/gram flour. Gram flour helps in even roasting of potatoes. Potato is favorite vegetable for many and also its versatile it is adaptable to many recipes. There are thousands of recipes using potato. Potato curry with dal and rice are my all time favorite. This urulai kizhangu kara curry is so easy to make which takes only 30 minutes all together. It pairs well with curd rice, bise belebath, dal rice or with rasam rice.
Besan / Gram flour added in this recipe gives crispy layer to the potato hence do not skip gram flour here.
Be generous in adding oil.
You can also pressure cook the potatoes to cut down the cooking time.
Potato kara curry / Urulai kizhangu kara curry
Ingredients
- 3 medium Potato
- 2 tbsp Oil
- 1/2 tsp Mustard seeds
- 1/2 tsp Jeera / cumin
- 2 spring Curry leaves
- 1 tsp Chili powder
- 1 tsp Sambar powder
- 1/2 tsp Coriander powder
- 1/4 tsp Turmeric
- 1 tbsp Besan
- Salt
Instructions
- In a plate mix chili powder, sambar powder,coriander powder, turmeric and gram flour / besan and set aside
- Heat a iron pan or non stick pan with some oil and add mustard seeds once it splutters add Jeera / Cumin and curry leaves and saute it quickly
- Add cubed potatoes and mix well and cover and cook for 7-8 minutes or till it is half cooked
- Further add the mixed masala with besan/ gram flour, salt and mix it with potatoes
- Now cover and cook in medium flame til it is done.
- Serve it hot with rice or curd rice
