Ragi cake recipe| Ragi chocolate cake recipe |How to make finger millet cake recipes with detailed step step photos. Ragi is one of the millet variety and it is rich in protein and minerals. And ragi is a great source of iron. It is staple food in south India. In my home town(ooty) ragi is main food as we make ragi mudde with it for regular breakfast or lunch. Now my toddler starts eating cake and cookies so now i make many millet based cakes and cookies. This ragi chocolate cake very simple to make, and also very healthy as jaggery is added.

This ragi cake recipe is egg less and requires simple available ingredients. I have used curd is this recipe to get soft cake. This recipe calls for both baking soda and baking powder so you cannot substitute it with each other. This cake cake is so fluffy and delicious kids will love it for sure.

Ragi cake does not require any topping or frosting. But i had some leftover chocolate sauce so i just used it but that is completely optional. You can use store bought or homemade ragi flour.

– In a large mixing bowl sieve ragi flour , wheat flour, baking powder and baking soda
– To that add jaggery powder
– Then add melted butter / oil , milk and vanilla essence and mix well
– Mix it well
– Now add curd and mix it. do not over mix it . Make it smooth cake batter
– Pour the batter in a prepared cake tin
– Bake it in a preheated oven at 180 degree Celsius for 40 minutes (each oven is different so it may take 5 minutes etc or less )
– Take it out once the inserted knife or tooth pick comes out clean
– Cut into pieces once it cool downs completely
– If adding chocolate sauce add it top after cake cools down

Ingredients
  

  • ¾ cup Ragi flour
  • ¾ cup Wheat flour
  • 2-3 tbsp Cocoa powder
  • 1 cup Jaggery powder
  • 1 tsp Baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp Baking soda
  • 2/3 cup Butter/oil
  • 3/4 Milk
  • 1/2 tbsp Vinegar
  • 1/2 tbsp Vanilla essence
  • 1/4 cup Curd

For topping (Optional)

  • Chocolate sauce /ganache

Instructions
 

  • In a large mixing bowl sieve ragi flour , wheat flour, baking powder and baking soda
  • To that add jaggery powder
  • Then add melted butter / oil , milk and vanilla essence and mix well
  • Mix it well
  • Now add curd and mix it. do not over mix it . Make it smooth cake batter
  • Pour the batter in a prepared cake tin
  • Bake it in a preheated oven at 180 degree Celsius for 40 minutes (each oven is different so it may take 5 minutes etc or less )
  • Take it out once the inserted knife or tooth pick comes out clean
  • Add choclolate sauce /ganache once the cake cools down
  • Cut into pieces and serve it

Notes

You can add oil instead of butter
You can also take 1 cup ragi flour and 1/4 cup wheat flour
