Tomato Kurma recipe / Thakkali kurma / How to make tomato kurma recipe with detailed step by step photos. Tomato kurma is side dish recipe from Tamilnadu cuisine. Thakkali kurma is easy to make which comes under 20 minutes all together. This easy tomato kurma requires a basic pantry staples. Tomato kurma makes best side dish with idli, dosa, chappati, parotta and even it goes well with pulav, kuska rice. My mom usually prepares this to pair it with chappati or dosa. Today here i will share my mom’s recipe for this tomato curry.

This thakkali kurma is made of onion, tomato, ground coconut paste and few spices. Coconut, fried gram (pori kadalai), green chili and fennel paste adds nice flavor and also it thickens the kurma recipe. Today here in this recipe i have added cinnamon and bay leaf but you can skip it. Also you can add star anise, cloves.

Thakkali kurma is easy to make which comes under 20 minutes all together. This easy tomato kurma requires a basic pantry staples. Tomato kurma makes best side dish with idli, dosa, chappati, parotta and even it goes well with pulav, kuska rice.
To make Ground coconut paste
– In a blender jar add coconut, fried gram, fennel /sombu and green chili with little water and blend it to smooth paste and set it aside
To make Tomato Kurma
– Heat a pan with some oil and add mustard seeds once it crackles add cinnamon abd bay leaf and saute it quickly
– Add Chopped onions and saute it till it turns golden
– Then add Ginger Garlic paste and curry leaves and saute it for 1-2 minutes
– Now add in the chopped tomatoes and cook till they turn mushy
– Now add the curry masala Powder and cook well till the oil oozes out
– Add required water and mix well
– Further add the ground coconut paste and cover and cook well for 3-4 minutes on medium to high flame
– Finally add chopped coriander leaves and switch of the flame and serve it hot with Chappati , Idli and dosa

Ingredients
  

  • Onion
  • Tomato
  • Ginger garlic paste
  • Curry masala powder or chili powder, coriander powder, turmeric
  • Oil
  • Mustard seeds
  • Cinnamon
  • Bay leaf
  • Water
  • Salt

To make Coconut paste

  • 1/4 cup Coconut shredded
  • 1 tbsp Fried gram / pori kadalai
  • 1 tsp Sombu / Fennel
  • 1-2 Green chili
  • 2 tbsp Water

Instructions
 

To make Ground coconut paste
