Quick and easy Poli recipe / How to make poli

INSTRUCTIONS:
In a bowl take 1 cup flour and add 1tsp salt then add water as required and knead it to a soft dough
Soak the dough with ¼ cup oil and be generous in adding oil to get soft poli. Then soak the dough for 3 hrs or more
TO PREPARE STUFFING
- Heat a Kadai and add ¾ cup Jaggery then add ¼ cup water let the jaggery dissolve
- Once the jaggery syrup comes to boil then add ¾ cup coconut and stir well cook on medium flame
- And now add 1 cup cooked then mashed channa dal mix well
- Cook for 5 minutes or till the mixture thickens and add ⅛ tsp cardamom powder then switch off the flame
- Let the stuffing get cooled completely
TO PREPARE POLI
- After the dough had rested for 3 hrs, knead the dough once and take a small ball sized dough and equal size stuffing
- Use banana leaf or polythene sheet or baking paper to flatten the dough flatten the dough and keep the stuffing inside and seal the edges
- Apply some oil and flatten the dough with hand
- place the poli in hot tawa ,( I placed in tawa using banana leaf )
- Cook on both the sides and apply ghee, flame should medium
Prep Time 10 mins
Cook Time 30 mins
Resting time 4 hrs
Total Time 4 hrs 40 mins

Ingredients
  

For Dough

  • 1 cup Maida
  • 1/4 cup Oil
  • 1/4 cup Water
  • 1 tbsp Salt

For Stuffing

  • 1 cup Cooked chana dal
  • 3/4 cup Coconut
  • 3/4 cup Jaggery
  • 1/4 cup Water
  • 2 tbsp Ghee
  • 1/4 tsp Cardamom

  • Place the poli in hot tawa ,( I placed in tawausing banana leaf )
  • Cook on both the sides and apply ghee, flame should be in  medium
  • Now serve the Poli/Boli/Holigea/obbatu with some ghee

Notes

  • While cooking the dal do not overcook it ,make sure to retain its shape
  • Blend the chana dal to smooth paste or mash it very well
  • I did not add turmeric to dough as my mom does not add so followed her but you can add turmeric powder to the dough
