Few tips to make Tamarind dates chutney
- You can skip dates and instead adjust sugar in this chutney recipe
2. Instead of jaggery you can also add white sugar but the taste may alter in the recipe
3. Adjust the consistency accordingly i wanted mine to be thick so overall cooked for 8 – 10 minutes
4. Also the cooking time depends on the water you have added
5. Do not skip dry ginger powder as it gives unique flavor and taste to the chutney recipe
Tamarind chutney
Ingredients
- ¾ cup Tamarind seedless
- ½ cup Dates seedless
- 2 cups Water
- 1 tsp Oil
- ½ tsp Cumin seed / jeera
- Pinch of Hing
- ½ cup Jaggery powder
- ½ tsp Chili powder if using Kashmiri chili powder use 1 tsp
- ¼ tsp Ginger powder
- ¼ tsp Roasted cumin powder
- ¼ Salt
Instructions
To make sweet tamarind chutney
- Soak seedless tamarind and dates in 1 cup of hot water for 30 minutes
- After 30 minutes add the soaked tamarind and dates along with water to a grinding jar
- And grind it to smooth paste
- Sieve the mixture through a fine strainer to get rid of fiber Add 1/4 cup more water while straining
- Heat oil in a kadai or pan add cumin seeds & hing and once it splutters
- Now add tamarind dates mixture and mix it and cook on medium flame
- Add jaggery powder and mix it well until it dissolves completely
- Add chili powder, cumin powder and salt and stir it in
- Simmer the chutney for 6-8 minutes in medium flame or until the chutney becomes slightly thick in consistency
