Coconut chutney recipe | White chutney| Hotel style chutney | How to prepare coconut chutney with detailed step by step photos. Coconut chutney is a famous south Indian chutney. Each region has their own version of coconut chutney , I have shared the basic and easy version of chutney. This recipe is made with few ingredient like coconut and roasted channa dal (porikadalai) as a main ingredient. I prepare this coconut chutney recipe twice or trice in a week. This goes well with idli, dosa, pongal and appam variety.
This chutney is served in all hotels in south india . many other ingredients can also be added to this basic chutney. Today I have shared the basic coconut chutney recipe. It can be prepared in few minutes with few ingredients.
Coconut chutney cannot be stored for long time as it get spoils easily. But you can store this chutney without tempering in fridge for a day. With this recipe we can add few coriander leaves, curry leaves and also few pudina/mint leaves. In hotels they do not temper the chutney.

Ingredients
- 1/2 cup Coconut
- 1 tbsp Friedgram dal /poori kadalai/ Pottukadalai
- 2 no. Green chilli
- Ginger (small)
For tempering
- 1 tsp Coconut oil
- 1/2 tsp Mustard
- Curry leaves (few)
- 1 no. Red chilli
Instructions
- In a blender jar take ½ cup tightly packed shredded coconut, 1 tbsp fried gram dal / poori kadalai/ pottu kadalai. Add small ginger, green chilli, salt and water
- Blend it to smooth
- For tempering – In a tadka pan heat 1 tsp coconut oil add mustard and once it crackles add red chilli and curry leaves and add it to chutney
- Serve it with idli or dosa
