Grilled chicken / Tandoori chicken is very popular appetizer or starter in Indian restaurant menu. Tandoori chicken is traditionally cooked on charcoal fire in a tandoor method. However that is not possible for all of us. So we can use grill pan or oven to make this tandoori or grilled chicken recipe at home. Today i made this chicken in convection oven.
There are thousands of chicken recipes available and this tandoori chicken is very popular and commonly eaten by people across the global. This recipe is not very common in households people tend to eat this in restaurant mostly. But we can prepare this grilled chicken at home with easily available ingredients this requires very less oil.
This recipe gives you juicy and delicious chicken. Marinate the chicken for minimum 6 hours and today i marinated it for 12 hours. i do not make tandoori chicken regularly as i make it only when we have friends or guests coming.
You can use whole chicken or thighs or breast piece for this recipe. I had boneless chicken so i used that.
You can adjust the spice level according to your taste. I used full indian masalas to get the flavour you can adjust the masala.

Tandoori chicken recipe
Ingredients
For marination
- 2 tsp Chili powder
- 1 tsp kashmiri chili
- 1 tsp Garam masala
- 1/4 tsp Turmeric powder
- 1 tsp Coriander powder
- 1 tsp Cumin powder
- 1 tsp Kasuri methi
- Salt
- 2 tsp Lemon juice
- 2-3 tbsp Curd / yogurt
- 1-2 tbsp Oil
Instructions
To marinate
- Take all the masala and other ingredients and
- In a bowl add Chili powder , kashmiri chili powder, turmeric, coriander, cumin powder, salt, kasuri methi, curd, lemon juice and 1 tsp oil
- Mix everything well and make paste of it
- Now take the cleaned chicken breasts and apply the tandoori masala well coat the masala well
- Now cover it and rest it in fridge for minimum of 4 hours and you can rest it for maximum 16 hours . today i kept for 12 hours.
- Now take it out prior 1 hour before you start to cook so that it comes to room temperature
- Arrange the marinated chicken at a baking dish lined with parchment paper. and brush some oil on top and cook it in convection mode for 35 minutes ( pre heat the oven and bake it at 190 degree celsius for 30 minutes)
- after 30 minutes take it out and transfer it to the stand and continue to cook in grill mode for last 5 minutes. this helps to give the nice colour.
- serve it with green chutney and mayo and enjoy it
